Sefwi Residents Demand Equal Policing, Justice After String of Unaddressed Violent Cases

Sefwi Residents Demand Equal Policing, Justice After String of Unaddressed Violent Cases

Residents of Sefwi are calling on the Ghana Police Service to apply the same level of response and public communication to violent incidents in their communities as seen in other parts of the country.

The appeal follows a series of unresolved cases in the area. In Sefwi Akrufu, two young men were stabbed to death. At Sefwi Sui, another man was shot. More recently, a young girl was reported missing in Sefwi Asawinso. All incidents have been reported to the police, but residents say there have been no public updates or visible efforts to address community fears.

The perceived silence stands in contrast to the response after the assassination of a man in Asawasi, Kumasi. In that case, heavy security was deployed immediately and the police issued public statements to reassure residents. The swift action was widely reported and noted across Ghana.

“Cases like these require the police to conduct thorough investigations and take steps to ensure public safety and reduce fear,” said community members in a statement.

The people of Sefwi say they are not asking for special treatment, only equal treatment under the law. They are urging the Ghana Police Service to intensify investigations into the Sefwi cases and communicate with the public to restore confidence.

“The people of Sefwi also deserve protection, attention, and justice,” the statement read. “We respectfully call on the Ghana Police Service to treat every community equally. Justice must not be selective. Justice for Sefwi is justice for Ghana.”

The Ghana Police Service has not yet issued a public statement on the Sefwi incidents as of May 10, 2026.
